Product Details

Buzz Rickson’s was founded in 1993 as part of Toyo Enterprise, Tokyo. The mandate has been unchanged since the first season: reproduce US military flight jackets and outerwear to the original MIL SPEC standard, working from period garments, museum loans, and veteran collections. It remains the most technically precise reproduction brand working in this territory.

ERDL camouflage takes its name from the US Army’s Engineer Research and Development Laboratory. Adopted by Marine Corps and Special Forces units in Vietnam, it is a four-colour leaf design — green, brown, black and khaki — selected for concealment in jungle terrain. It remained in service through the end of the conflict.

Tour jackets were personal commissions. Servicemen would bring their own fabric to local tailors, specify their unit’s insignia, and receive something built for them specifically — not issued, not standard. This jacket was commissioned by a Marine named Kellogg, from the 3rd Tank Battalion attached to the 3rd Marine Division, using ERDL fabric from his unit’s own issue. The back carries the battalion’s insignia. According to Buzz Rickson’s research of the original piece, it carries more than that.

Style With

Raw denim is the natural pairing — indigo or washed black, straight cut. Below the jacket, the simpler the better: a plain cotton t-shirt or a fine rollneck in cooler weather. Simple chinos work equally well. Military surplus trousers are an option, used lightly.

Work boots suit this jacket better than trainers — something with genuine construction and a bit of wear to it.

The jacket is the piece. It doesn’t need much company.
